Tommi's Corner

Introduction

This corner is firstly meant for the type of a column, where visitors could zoom my thoughts and things that I think about different subjects. Here is my musical history written for a story by my words.

If we go straight to the beginning, there's a fact that music was attached to me for always, though that I'm not been interested of it or I didn't play/sing all of my life. The biggest reason for that is in my genes. Two generations before me from the side of my father was musical persons or they're musicians. I know about my roots only those two generations, so I can't say if there's more older persons that had same tendencies that we have... Next we're going to move into my "conscious musical word":

I've been interested of music (specially rock-music) since I was about 8 years old and it has been a very big part of my life since that moment I found it. Probably it's going to be the same until the end.

First band I was excited was Dingo. In the songs of Dingo were deserts, lonely characters, empty abandoned houses and other symbols like that. The singer of this band (Neumann) was really important person for a long time to this little boy, who found the joy for himself by the music.

I got some kind of tunings, where we had a wash-basins and cucumbercans (made of metal) as a drums. We searched those cans from the trashcans of shops and we used the covers of cans as a symbals. Pellicles we made with adhesive tape, only real thing for drums we had was a drumsticks. In our line-up we had those "playdrums", singing and keyboardplayer. Songs were some kind of translations from the hits of those times and our versions were mostly improvised. My english was very poor and the lyrics are something like that the singers saying in their words... These "playdrumbands" were my music until I was 11.

Next two years I played alone with my synthesizer and I learnt basics from the reading of notes. When I realized that I can't create anything of my own, I quit playing for few years.

I spent (or I was forced to spent) year 1996 in army. There I'll started to write my thoughts to paper in english. The part of texts were reality and the other part of them were some kind of fairy-tale from the reality. So I get my channel to use my artistic tendencies. My books were filled with stories and I don't exactly know where I'm going to use them...

Until somewhere in 1998 i was totally freaked-out of band called HIM. The band was going to be my new source of the inspiration.

I met Timo accidentally at one office in early 2000 and it takes a little moment when we're talking about a music. I told that I have a material in my books and Timo told me that he have a song that needs lyrics for his soloproject. I said that I can wrote those words for that song and Timo gave me a cassette where that song was. It takes for two weeks to me for writing those lyrics, but I was late with my words and there were recorded that song as an instrumental for that self-released record. However our collaboration get started and somewhere in the summer 2000 we started to write songs together and few months later we have a couple of songs complete. I got some ideas for the name that we're going to use, we choosed Division Nature and our logo was ready also. It is almost in the original form nowadays, only little changes were made for it. I suggest that 'should we record our songs?' and that's the road we walk today...

In the end of 2000 I get synthesizer (lended by one of my friends). The first song I learned to play with it was 'Gone With The Sin' by HIM. To learn the melody I used tabulatures for guitars printed from internet. For awhile I found that 'this verse is played with same tones and chords like this chorus'. I faced the fact that I can play any songs by using my ears and I realized my development. I realized also that I can create own melodies and the burning for playing was born again... Nowadays I'm annoying that I had a break for years out of playing. Who knows what kind of virtuoso I could be if I haven't got that time without playing keyboards? Well, I got the music in my blood after all...

However the years between I spent by following everything that happens in the world of music. I read magazines and I started to collect record in the middle 1990's. The reason why my collection started to increase so late was that when I was younger I got not enough money to buy records that I liked. The amount of my collection is something between 500 and 1000 records. It depends how we count those records (different editions of same record etc)...

I hate all of the bands that used machines in music before Division Nature get started. My thoughts about machines in music are not so narrowminded nowadays. I'll accept the machines when the songs needs them and the thing is made with the good taste.

During the time of Division Nature I has learn a lots of creating songs, arranging and other things like that. Recordings has come familiar to me and my voice is stronger than before Division Nature. Using my voice is better and my technique in singing is more certain like in our early days. Music is very funny thing to do and I realized that I can wear my ideas to the form of music. I get more kicks when I found our record reviewed in media and there is some flattering words for us, that keeps our flame on fire. It's very awesome to found that there is people who likes Division Nature. Other people than we...
